Damson Idris is clearly ready for F1 to hit theaters this summer.
The British actor, and co-star alongside Brad Pitt of the Formula One film, arrived at the Met Gala ready to race. Videos from outside fashion’s biggest night showed Idris arriving in a Tommy Hilfiger-branded race car — similar to what audiences will see him in this summer.
Idris then arrived on the Met Gala carpet in a bedazzled racing helmet (in red, white and blue stripes embellished in Swarovski crystals) and full Tommy Hilfiger race suit. After taking photos in the look, two staff members grabbed onto a side of the suit and ripped it open to reveal a three-piece red suit by Hilfiger. The suit’s jacket featured one side of gold and red plaid. Idris accompanied the look with a custom emerald brooch and a yellow and rose gold necklace featuring a green tourmaline pendant from his luxury jewelry line, Didris. Fashion’s biggest night served as the brand’s red carpet debut.

Idris donned a custom brooch featuring an almost 11-carat emerald center stone surrounded by 18 special-cut tourmalines. For a second luxe accessory, Idris wore a pendant necklace by Didris that was handwoven in yellow and rose gold and featuring a green tourmaline. The necklace retails for $13,250.
In an interview about his jewelry brand at the Chateau Marmont in February, Idris told The Hollywood Reporter that Didris represents his “love letter to jewelry,” an affair he credits to his mother. “She introduced me to jewelry. At first, I would kind of sneak in her room and steal it from her, go to school and show it off and put it back at the end of the day,” revealed the Snowfall actor. “Then she caught me one day and she said, ‘Oh, you like this, huh? You like gold?’ I told her that I loved it so the first ring she gave me was one of those coin rings. She kept giving me different pieces. So this brand is my homage to her. I wanted to make her smile. I genuinely feel that at this stage of my life — my mother is in her 70s — I want to make her proud with everything that I do and if I accomplish that then I’m happy.”
The outfit reveal was undoubtedly the most exciting of the night, with Idris finally taking his helmet off after his second outfit was revealed. Idris’ Formula One-themed outfit was a perfect fit for a gala co-hosted by one of the greatest the sport has ever seen — Lewis Hamilton — who is also a producer on the upcoming Apple film. This year was far from Idris’ first time at the Met Gala; he most recently attended last year with Prada.
In F1, Idris plays a rookie driver who’s mentored by a once-retired driver, played by Pitt. “Every time you see Brad or Damson driving in this movie, they’re driving on their own in one of these real race cars on a real F1 track,” the film’s director, Joseph Kosinski, said in a press event when the trailer was released.
“The big challenge was just the camera system itself. We had to develop a brand new camera system taking everything we learned on Top Gun: Maverick and pushing it much further. You can’t put 60 pounds of gear onto a race car and expect it’s going to perform the same way,” the director added.
F1 hits theaters and Imax on June 25 from Warner Bros.
