“After an emotional separation from her husband Ryan and an impulsive reconnection with Ken, her ex-fiance, Gypsy Rose Blanchard finds herself unexpectedly expecting just six months after her release from prison,” notes the synopsis for season two’s first episode. “Due to parole restrictions, a pregnant Gypsy will have to navigate two households — one in New Orleans with boyfriend Ken who has moved to New Orleans to pursue his dream of having a family; and one with Rod and Kristy, down the Bayou. On her path to motherhood, Gypsy will contend with the increasingly volatile world of social media and the continuing fears of Ken leaving her. But the biggest challenge will be to prove to everyone else and herself that she is capable of breaking the cycle of abuse from her mother with her own baby girl.”

Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up comes after Blanchard’s six-episode docuseries, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Hulu also released The Act, a limited series based on Blanchard’s life, starring Joey King and Patricia Arquette, who won an Emmy for her portrayal of Blanchard’s late mother, Claudinne “Dee Dee” Blanchard. She told Today that King “did an amazing job” playing her, though she was “a little bit harder [on Arquette] for playing my mom just because it’s my life. I am very hypercritical of it.”
In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Blanchard explained that she didn’t want to be defined by her life in prison.
“I’m about to head into a new chapter in my life, a new look, a new me, new style, new everything,” she said. “You get little bits and pieces of what my life has been like in the last five months from articles online, TikTok videos, social media, little bits here and there. But no one gets to actually be in the room with me except for my family. … And for me that was important to show, no, this is who I am.”

Who is Gypsy Rose Blanchard?: Murder Trial, Where She Is Now
Gypsy Rose Blanchard captivated true crime enthusiasts — and the world — when she was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 after pleading guilty to persuading Nicholas Godejohn, a boyfriend she met online, to kill her mother. Dee Dee Blanchard had forced her daughter to pretend for years that she was suffering from serious illnesses, including leukemia and muscular dystrophy. She was released on parole from Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center on Dec. 28, 2023, after serving 85 percent of her original sentence.
In December 2024, Blanchard gave birth to her first child with her ex-fiancé, Ken Urker (whom she met while in prison), after filing for divorce from her husband, Ryan Anderson (whom she also met and wed while incarcerated).
Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up TV Series Synopsis, Where to Watch Other Documentaries and Shows
Per Lifetime, Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up “is an authentic, raw and revealing look at Gypsy’s new life on the outside. From the joyful moments as she is free to make her own decisions for the first time to the challenges of navigating life and relationships while facing her past, including the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother and Gypsy’s own notoriety and fame. In this delayed-coming-of-age story, Gypsy must reconcile the pop-culture, celebrity version of herself while trying to forge her brand-new identity in a ‘normal’ world as wife, sister, daughter and most of all — a free woman.”
Blanchard first shared her story in Lifetime’s six-episode docuseries, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose, which is available to buy or rent on Apple TV, Prime Video and other video-on-demand platforms or to stream online at Lifetime’s website or app by logging in with a traditional or streaming cable TV account (such as DirecTV, Frndly, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, Philo and Sling).
Her story also inspired a Hulu limited original series, The Act, starring Joey King and Patricia Arquette and countless other unofficial documentaries.
HBO also released a 2017 true-crime documentary, Mommy Dead and Dearest, inspired by Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee Blanchard. The one-hour, 32-minute film is available to stream on Max, which can be added to DirecTV, Hulu and Prime Video streaming plans.
