Amazon MGM Studios has set a May 15, 2026, release for its feature adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s psychological thriller novel Verity, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordóva and Brady Wagner.
The release date is seen as providing counter-programming on a schedule for that month that includes such male-skewing tentpole fare as The Mandalorian & Grogu and Avengers: Doomsday.
Michael Showalter (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) is directing the movie. Nick Antosca wrote the script following previous work by writers Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and the team of Will Honley and April Maguire.

Verity centers on struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired by Jeremy Crawford to complete the remaining books in a series penned by his wife, author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who has suffered a mysterious accident. Lowen soon learns that a secret unfinished manuscript may reveal clues about the family’s past.
Serving as producers are Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Showalter and Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions, Hathaway for Somewhere Pictures, Hoover for Heartbones Entertainment and Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny. Executive producing is Heartbones Entertainment’s Lauren Levine.
Hoover’s other novel adapted for Sony was It Ends With Us with Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni and Brandon Sklenar. Despite the more recent legal war of words that it has caused, it was a big box-office hit of the summer. Another Hoover book, Regretting You, has an indie adaptation in the works with stars Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco and Mason Thames.
Hoover self-published Verity in 2018 before Grand Central Publishing acquired it in 2021. The book went on to become a New York Times bestseller.
Showalter previously directed Hathaway in Amazon MGM Studios feature The Idea of You, which co-starred Nicholas Galitzine and adapted Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name. Showalter’s banner, Semi-Formal Productions, has a first-look deal with the studio.
